Dragon Fruit

dragon fruit

All I really knew about this fruit before buying it, was that if you sliced it on Fruit Ninja, you’d get 50 points!  Sadly, that didn’t happen at the grocery store for me.

So…I bought this extremely odd fruit. First off…it is pretty big. Unfortunately, a lot of these weird foods come in sizes that I’m not ready to eat…especially if they’re gross.  I do hate wasting money…cause I’m cheap…and if I don’t like the food, then it goes right into the garbage.

Onto the fruit…

Like most things I’m not familiar with, I went straight to YouTube. They have tutorials for everything!  Because my attention span is similar to that of a gnat, I watch the first 20 seconds and fast forwarded through everything else. FYI…This is not a good tactic to take when learning how to install a sink, but luckily I wasn’t dealing with any plumbing while handling this fruit.

Aside from having a really badass name, the dragon fruit looks really cool. And if it looks cool…it must taste good right?  The peeling of the fruit was rather easy…thank you YouTube. Unlike the cactus pear, the dragon fruit had tiny seeds on the inside. Small like a kiwi. I didn’t have to worry about spitting any of these out. The texture was similar to that of a kiwi as well.  Overall, the tasting experience was OK. It wasn’t as sweet as I hoped, but definitely NOT disgusting.

I’ve said it before…there is a reason these weird foods and fruits aren’t as popular as the apple or classic potato chips. These foods aren’t flying off the shelves. I have never seen one remaining dragon fruit sitting in the bin. Maybe it’s just me…

Synopsis:  I might buy again.
